TCE, brake cleaner, and wheel preparation are related topics, but they are not interchangeable claims.
1. TCE and perc are specific chemicals
Some brake-cleaner formulations have used trichloroethylene (TCE) or perchloroethylene (perc). Others have not. A shop should check the current safety data sheet for the exact product in its cabinet instead of assuming every can is the same.
2. Wheel preparation is a specific job
Before a stick-on wheel weight is installed, the bond area must be cleaned, wiped thoroughly, and allowed to dry fully. Heavy oil, grease, silicone dressing, tire lubricant, and old adhesive may need removal before the final prep step.
3. Prep N Stick has two formulas
Prep N Stick Quick Dry is acetone-based and built for rapid flash-off. It is free of TCE and perc. It is safe for all wheel finishes, including custom paint and clear coats. It is flammable and ships as DOT UN1090, Hazard Class 3, Packing Group II.
Water-based Prep N Stick is under 2 percent VOC, non-flammable, and not classified as hazardous for transport. It takes longer to dry and is sold through tire-supply distributors and direct sales programs.
Quick Dry is not the lower-hazard formula. Its edge is speed. The water-based formula is the non-flammable classification choice.

Prep N Stick replaces brake cleaner for the wheel-prep step. CHAOS does not make or sell brake cleaner, and it does not claim Prep N Stick replaces brake cleaner for brake service.
